Staghorn Sumac

"The Staghorn Sumac, Rhus typhina, is the most well-known sumac. Its branches resemble deer antlers. Staghorn sumac reaches 25 feet in height at maturity with an equal spread. It is not as tolerant of poorly drained soils as other sumacs. The large dark crimson - or rarely orange to yellow - pinnate leaves of this sumac have 15-31 narrow, leaflets that can be up to (6"") long. The large clumps form bright splashes of color along forest margins, road banks, and fencerows and in old fields over much of the Appalachians."

The Pepper Chile Ancho/Poblano, 'Capsicum annuum', is called "Pablano" in the fresh green form and "Ancho" as a dried pod.

This Chile Pepper is mildly hot and is used for chilies rellenos and mole sauces. The Poblano is one of the most popular chilies in Mexico. The green Pablano is stuffed with cheese or meat for chilies rellenos and the dark, reddish-brown dried Ancho is used in a variety of sauces such as the traditional "mole pablano".

Harvest when 3.5 inches long and 2 inches wide and when the peppers are a dark green.

The Spirea 'Dart's Red', Spiraea x bumalda 'Dart's Red', is a deciduous semi-evergreen shrub. It is a low growing shrub with rounded shape. The thin branches give Dart's Red a very dense appearance.

The young leaves have a pinkish red color and become dark green at maturity.Distinguished by their size, bloom color and season of bloom, spireas all have small leaves and fine, twiggy branches. Once established, they are drought tolerant.

Blue Chinese Wisteria, Wisteria sinensis, is a twining, woody vine valued for its pendulous clusters of extremely fragrant violet-blue flowers. Chinese Wisteria is a shade tolerant vine, but it only blooms when grown in partial to full sun. It is perfect for covering patios, arbors or fences.

Leaves consist of 7 to 13 leaflets of large size; after flowering, very attractive, velvety pods are produced, containing seed. It is probably best used for training to grow onto an arbor where flowers can droop and form a fragrant ceiling of color.
